Story behind the piece:
Written for Burkhard Mohr on his suggestion: he sent me a German Hungarian hymn on which to base the variations: "Du schöner Lebensbaum des Paradieses, gütiger Jesu, Gottes Lamm auf Erden. Du bist der wahre Retter unsres Lebens, unser Befreier" I took the original melody and wove some whole tone and other modal harmonies around it.
