Story behind the piece:
The planet was originally Venus, as viewed by the French poet Jules Supervielle. However, since his poem was copyright, I kept my music setting and composed a new poem for it with Mars as the planet. The recording here; which is the première recorded in my living room and features Duncan Saunderson singing 2nd alto and the composer playing guitar and singing 1st alto.
It still uses the Supervielle poem, but the printed scores use my new words:

The whispers of spirits are haunting the valleys of Mars.
Scarcely they move layers of cool thin air.
And they recall the life that was over long since we first came visiting.
Long ago there was a time of life under the distant sun.
long ago among those dark red dunes.
Under the distant sun where now spirits whisper.
